Writing an article with a catchy title is not as hard as conveying my emotions to you. One reason is I'm attached to this topic is because over the past 3 years my life has changed drastically.

I realized that there is so much more to life than the negativity we choose to see. But with so much happening around us it’s hard to see the good side. This becomes harder midst a pandemic, it’s difficult to change your life around but there are a few things you can do for yourself.

There is a lot more than just these 5 points as everyone is in a difficult situation right now. You can do these in general if you want a change of pace or environment.

Now, let's get into a few ways you can change your life around.

  1. Accept Failure

Accepting failure is one of the hardest things I had to learn. I have learned more from failure than from school. This isn't me saying failure doesn't bring me down, it does at times. But it's me saying our education system isn't great.

What I learned from failure is that it will get you down because none of us like failing as much as we say we are okay with it. Initially, when you fail at something you are bound to feel sad, and that's okay you are human you will feel bad.

In fact, if you don't feel bad about that failure it means you didn't care about that thing, to begin with. Failure can help you if you see where you made mistakes and not blame external situations. If they were external factors that are out of your control you should avoid blaming yourself. Instead, focus on what you can do next time.

  1. Meet New People

I’m a socially anxious person and I’m always fearful of being judged. So you can imagine how well this idea sat with me. Meeting new people and mixing about isn’t my strong suit, but it’s something I’m working on.

Over the past year, I have met more people online than I have interacted with any in person. And yes, online friends can be real friends. Making this decision was one of the best decisions I have made because most of those people were pure gems. Each person I have come across has taught me a valuable lesson that I will treasure.

When you meet new people you meet new ideas, new thoughts, and all this can change how you see life. Always remember the people you surround yourself with reflect who you are. They are the energy you put out in the universe.

  1. Do Something!

We get stuck with the idea of “I don’t know where to start”, well start anywhere but start. Being someone who always prefers planning over being spontaneous I have missed out on a fair share of good opportunities. I don’t regret it because at that moment that’s what felt right to me.

Here’s the thing, don’t regret things you missed out on in the past. It is hard thinking back to those times, but that’s the past so why upset yourself now? If you want to turn things, then start now. If you have a gut feeling that’s telling you ‘now is not the right time’ then that's okay, when the time is right you will feel it in your bone.

  1. Accept Some People Just Don’t Care

This can be one of the hardest to do especially if you’re someone that really cares a lot about the people around you. Everyone should care about themselves too because YOU ARE IMPORTANT and YOU MATTER.

If you don’t look out for yourself how can you expect the one’s around you to? One thing I have learned is that the ones who care will show it. Maybe not all the time as they will have their own set of problems they are dealing with.

The less you care about who cares about you and who doesn’t the happier you will be. It’s not selfish to care more about your well-being and mental health than those around you. Sometimes, it’s okay and necessary to put yourself first.

  1. Go and Explore

If there is one thing I am terrified of it is exploring. Exploring the world, new opportunities, people, life, all of it scares me. But over the past year, I have come to see how privileged I am to even have these options.

All the violence going around, the deaths of close ones has made me realize it's now or never. Exploring can help you grow a lot as you learn new things each step of the way. Whether it’s traveling or learning new things, exploring more will help you gain more perspective on life.

Everyone is different and will have a different way of looking at things. These may be things you already do or they may be a bit much for you. What is important is you try new things when you’re ready and don’t beat yourself up too much.

(If you do go to explore now, please wear a mask and be safe as your health comes first.)

There will be many ways and 'tricks' you can change your life and how to turn it around. But the truth of it all is you should really want that change for it to happen.

We often want things but don't work for them, hoping it will happen someday. If you want things to change, you can start today and see how it works for you.

Everyone is different and people have their own worries so take your time and don't be hasty. Do what feels right in the present.
