ANIMALS SHOULD BE TREATED WELL

Many people treat animals with care and respect but some ill-treat them. Why do we ill-treat animals? There could be three reasons if I may.

  • People who do it unknowingly, they may try to help an animal but not knowing much about it they may end up harming them.

  • Then those who do it to feel powerful, they know animals are helpless at times and chose to hurt them to feel more in control of the things around them.

  • Those who hurt them intentionally yet not realizing that they are hurting the animals, this mostly includes children as they intentional will pull dogs or cats tail but don’t do it to hurt them.

One reason I wanted to write this article is that I know many people love animals and many who don’t. I want to see more people understand how to respect animals, let them be wild or domestic. Irrespective if you love or don't care about animals one should learn to respect them as living beings.

This article will be in two parts, this one will talk about why we should treat animals well and the other will guide you on how to do so, Click here to read how animals should be treated.

Animals are not meant to be treated like humans.

Yes, I have a strong opinion on this, many people may disagree. But hear me out, I’m not saying this because animals are at the bottom of the food chain or because they are of lower intelligence or any of those reasons. I am saying this as animals when treated and spoken to like actual people while being corrected get confused. Talking and showing affection in playtime is good but not when trying to correct a behaviour.

Take domestic animals for example, when they are not taught rules, boundaries and limitations they can get difficult to handle, we blame this on the animals. When a young toddler is not corrected for the wrong behaviour they carry on doing it, in the same way, animals need to be corrected. Pets, especially dogs will get aggressive if they think the owner can’t protect them. In other words, “we have to be the pack leader.” (As said by Cesar Millan)

Empathy

Being around animals makes us more empathetic not only towards other animals but towards other people as well. Even those who don’t like animals will feel for an injured animal. Feeling the pain of an animal surely will help us understand the pain of a fellow human.

Emotional benefits

We know that there are emotional support animals and guide dogs all over the world. There is a good reason why there are separate guide/support dogs, as they go through special training to be a guide/support dog. But in general, animals are the best when it comes to emotionally supporting people, they can be a very calming source. Many times they even help people through the roughest patches of their life.

Animals must be treated with respect and love, domestic pets like dogs and cats must be able to see their owner as of the leader (this is more so for dogs than cats, as cats will own you anyway) or they may end up being aggressive which can be difficult to curb.
