Sometimes we feel like we aren’t good enough for that job or that we won’t do well in certain things. Your fears may be right, but should that stop you? No. You will doubt yourself quite often but remember you won’t know until you try. If you fail, that’s fine, you will learn through your mistakes.

To be honest, I never liked writing and was not good at it, but one day I felt so low I to a pen and wrote my feelings down. Turns out I wrote my first poem, it was not good by any means but I continued and over time I have gotten better.
Here is one of the first poems I wrote in 2015,
Past, one word four letters,
Who you were in the past can affect your present and make your future.
It can change you for the best or worst,
It’s a reminder of your scars and smiles,
Your past is a big part of you,
It can make you or break you.
The choice is yours.
Clearly, it’s not good and I knew it back then as well. But the way I felt from trying something new was so different which is why I continued.
Here is a poem I recently wrote,
I’m not sad,
I’m just tired.
Tired of all the words
The meaningless words that roll off peoples tongue.
The promises they make to stay,
But know they won’t keep.
I’m tired of living in reality
Where smiles and laughter may just be a mask people put on
A mask they put to hide their true emotions to avoid questions,
Questions that opened old wounds that once shattered you.
It’s a weird feeling you know,
To have people you can talk to
Yet wanting to be alone, it’s a feeling not many understand.
I’m not taking people for granted,
I just don’t know who will stay and who will use my vulnerability against me.
I’m not sad,
Sadness is a phase that comes to an end,
I have long awaited the sadness to leave.
But that’s when I realized,
I’m not sad
Just a little broken.
As you can see, my writing has changed over time and that is because I never gave up even though I knew I was not as good as others my age. I changed over time and my writing shows that.
All I’m trying to say is because you think you aren’t good enough don’t stop yourself from trying. Trying has helped me grow, and I wish that for you.
The future is scary and uncertain, we know that. You can plan as much as you want but sometimes things won’t go your way. When I was 18 I thought I would graduate by 21 and be working by 22. Never thought I would get a drop or that we would be hit by a pandemic.
If you think failure is a setback then you’re wrong, if I didn't get a year drop I would never be into writing today. A setback is an opportunity to see things from a different perspective.
Here are things to remember when you feel you aren’t good enough
Use your inner critic to your advantage- You are judging yourself a lot harder than an outsider. Instead of looking at your flaws and mistakes negatively look at it as an opportunity to improve.
Start by doing something you will enjoy- If putting yourself out there is too scary then start small and do something you will enjoy. That can help you get rid of that anxious feeling.
Do it anyway- Simple way to get over your doubt is trying what you are afraid of. It is easier said than done but trying never hurts. The worst-case scenario will always haunt you but don’t let that stop you.
See how far you have come- You aren’t the same person you were 4 years back. You have changed and that is the sign of growth, whatever the change maybe. Be proud of just accepting this change as many people don’t like it and it’s not easy.
Don’t beat yourself if you’re still doubtful, give it time and go with the flow. You will know when you’re ready to push yourself. And lastly, STOP BEATING YOURSELF UP OVER THINGS THAT DON’T MATTER.
