You’ve all heard the saying, 'If you never try you’ll never know.' It’s not easy to just go out there and try, it can be scary and nerve wrenching for some. It is also important to acknowledge that we tried, I’ve often heard people say trying is not enough, it's the results that matter.

Here is a simple example of why trying counts more, in the long run. We all remember what examinations feel like, we may not remember what we studied in school or college but we can never forget the exam pressure. The last-minute studying, the all-nighters, the fear of blanking out, all that has taught us how to handle the pressure. If we let fear take over us and not give the exam we would never learn how to handle this kind of pressure.
Another simple example is relationships, we don’t know how it will go, but we try. As humans we care, the act of trying shows that, we try for the things that matter. Even if relationships break you should not have regrets about not trying.
I understand the fear of going outside your comfort zone can be scary. Especially when you have been here for so long the risk of ruining that comfort seems unworthy. The thrill of a new experience, the joy of learning as we go may seem like a false effort. It’s only the motivation to be a better version than we were yesterday that can push us to try things out.
We tend to base our thoughts and experiences off others at times which may be helpful to an extent but beyond that, we have to try to know what it feels like. It may be the opposite of what you heard, you may hate the experience but the point is you tried, you did something new.
When you don’t try new things you don’t learn and when you don’t learn your mental and emotional growth remains stagnant. Not everything you try will be amazing, things may not go your way but you won’t know this unless you try it. Now, trying does not only attribute to gaining knowledge but trying can also mean you gain new experiences, new memories. Trying your hand at something new will be the only definitive way of knowing whether something works for you or not.
The act of trying puts us in a very vulnerable position as it brings a lot of self-doubting questions to our mind “Should I do this?” “Will it be worth it?” “Will I regret it ?” so on and so forth. These doubts as scary as they are are nothing but fear we all have of the unknown. We have the choice to let it take over or we could learn to control it by stepping into the unknown.
Lastly, I want to add, take your time, don’t rush it and live in the moment or you will never enjoy the experience.
